Protecting Your Data

A description of our infrastructure (for the techies)

The first thing you should know about our architecture is that all data transfers between your premises and ours are fully encrypted.  We use a public key generated by our servers to encrypt the data so that only our private key can de-crypt it onto our data store.

CloudBackup employs state-of-the-art firewalls and intrusion detection systems to ensure the safety of your data on our servers.

The backup appliance on your premises consists of mirrored enterprise-grade disk drives so that a single disk failure would not cause any loss of data.

At our secure data centre, your data is stored on an array of 1-terabyte enterprise-grade disk drives.

CloudBackup uses a RAID-5 redundant array which spreads copies of the data across multiple hard drives. Two or more of these would have to fail simultaneously and the backup appliance on your premises would have to fail completely all at the same time before any data would be lost.

RAID-5 arrays are at least 2,500 times more reliable than the hard drive in your computer.
